Racing to the Finish
A determined group of Cheetahs participated in the final race of the season on Saturday, June 28, at Burton Field. Claire Ford again led the way with a personal best of 6:52, followed closely by Alex Nicolai (6:57), Ian Kossak (6:59), Brett Voight (7:00), and Sam Inloes (7:07). Megan Kossak (7:23), Ryan Fox (7:33), Grant Fox (7:47), Henry Robertson (8:02), and Max Resch (8:03) rounded out the Top Ten. The runners turned in great performances on a muggy afternoon and we all enjoyed pizza and awards after the race. (Click on the 'Results' link for the rest of the times.)
Allow me to reiterate my thanks to all the parents who pitched in to help this season, and a special thanks to Bob Schwartz whose continuous help has been invaluable.
The Scleroderma Foundation sent me a link to a slideshow of photographs from the day of the race; there are some great shots of Cheetahs!
Scleroderma Slide Show
Our season will wrap up with a one-mile race and picnic on Saturday, June 28, at 3:00 P.M. at Burton Field. Please respond to Melanie's email if you plan to attend.
The Motor City Striders race results are posted. Natalie Baxter was the top Cheetahs finisher in the one-mile race (7:40) and Sam Inloes completed the three-mile course in 24:47. Please let me know if I missed anyone on the results.

Pictures and Scleroderma T-Shirts
In the post-race excitement on Sunday, I neglected to distribute the Scleroderma T-Shirts. I will bring them to practices this week (and distribute them at the transition). I will distribute the picture packets then as well. If you can't attend practice and would like your t-shirt/pictures sooner rather than later, contact Melanie or me.
Scleroderma Race
Thirty-six Cheetahs got up early on a warm and sticky morning to run the one-mile Scleroderma Fun Run at the Detroit Zoo on Sunday, June 8. A kicking Claire Ford outsprinted Alex Nicolai for the win with both runners clocking an impressive 7:08. Other top finishers for the Cheetahs included Ryan Fox (3rd in 7:12), Ian Kossak (4th in 7:25), Megan Kossak (5th in 7:29), Natalie Baxter (6th in 7:34), Sam Inloes (7th in 7:40), Brett Voight (8th in 7:42), Zoe Baxter (9th in 7:46) and Max Resch (10th in 8:04). More results will be posted later.
Blustery Battle
The rain parted briefly on Sunday, May 18, to allow the Cheetahs to squeeze in another mile race at Burton Field. Newcomer Ryan Fox led the way with a 7:18, followed closely by Sam Inloes (7:21), Brett Voight (7:22), and Zoe Baxter (7:37). Gordie Mylnavek (7:56), Grant Fox (8:10), Henry Robertson (8:11), Emma Claire Murray (8:12), Miles Grayson (8:22), and Destiny Dichtel (8:31) rounded out the top ten.
The Cheetahs next race is the Scleroderma Run on Sunday, June 8, at the Detroit Zoo.
Racing in the Sun
Thirty-one Cheetahs showed up at Burton Field on a sunny May 4 to test their training on the one-mile course. Three runners entered the track in a virtual tie, but after a dramatic tumble, Claire Ford was able to pull away and win the race in an impressive 6:56, followed by Ian Kossak in 7:01 and Alex Nicolai in 7:15. Sam Inloes (7:30) and Brett Voight (7:32) rounded out the top five. Overall, the times were quite good with four others finishing in under 8:00: Max Resch (6th in 7:44), Henry Robertson (7th in 7:45), Ruby Donnellon (8th in 7:49), and Destiny Dichtel (9th in 7:55). All the runners received medals and seemed happy to see all their hard work in practice pay off.
Ten Who Dared
A small but committed group of Cheetahs braved the early morning hours on Saturday, April 19, to race in a one-mile fun run at the Madison Heights Nature Center. Claire Ford led the way for the Cheetahs, finishing the course in 7:25, followed by Max Resch (7:55), Sam Inloes (8:42), Brett Voight (8:43), and Kathryn Ford (9:37). Also completing the scenic nature-trail course were Natalie Cripps (10:00), Olivia Smith (11:21), Henry Dodson (11:33), Andrew Siegel (11:42), and Rebecca Schulte (12:38). Every seemed to enjoy the race and Melissa Marsh, the race director, was very generous with awards.
